Callas and more practice

This was a warm up painting that ended up taking several hours.
Love the "calla" time of the year!

More  practice on portraits.
This has too much noodling.
It needs to be simpler but I was just trying to get the main
planes of the face.
Bad hair day?

  1. Love your calla painting! It's got that awesome glow.
Portraits are so tough - so hard not to go back into them (for me). An accurate eye is your best friend and your worst enemy. It's nicer than you think. And I love that crazy hair!

  2. That painting of the callas is perfect! Beautiful palette and nice design. Nice composition with the portrait. You have successful shapes... be patient and keep doing more!

  3. The combination of cool and warm greens in your calla painting is delightful! I love that "icy" green color and how the plant goes of the surface in places. The pensive look in the young woman's face gives her such personality, and I think her hair style is very appropriate.

  4. I enjoy seeing your active brush work, Helen. No matter what you paint there is alway "life" to your work. The callas are such a great example of it... and with the portrait I find I especially love the expression in her eyes.
