Working with Abstracts

This is a large painting, 24 x 48 inches, that I have been playing
with for some time now. It had no darks and lights. Straight
midtones.
So I got bold.
Now it says something.

Another view.

Little Yellow House

Last week's class was on a busy street in Petaluma
that is full of homes both glorious and modest .
This little yellow stucco gem caught my eye.

Love the reflected light in the doorway.

Wildflower Challenge

I have gone back to the Daily Paintworks Challenge.
It is such a great exercise.

This week the challenge is to paint summer wildflowers.
Any way you wish.

These are right out the window of my studio.

Summer fresh flowers

Summer fresh flowers. That is all I could think of as this painting progressed.
I did a "first" painting and was really fighting the texture of the board as I was painting
over an old work. Many layers of paint are good sometime but
 not yesterday.
So I pulled out a clean board with a neutral grey background and proceeded.
The bouquet grew.
Patterns emerged.
Lights. Darks.
It all just happened.
Love the result.
