Bold Roses

Is there anything you just try and try again?
For me, it's roses ( and barns )
Here I tried to concentrate on the negative shapes and see what that would bring to the table.
They are interesting shapes
The roses are bold and that was also what I was after.
Truth be told, there will be more paintings of this subject.
It speaks to me.

What else?

What else? A barn, of course.
Trying to capture the essence of an old, old barn  that wasn't always old.
It had life and joy.
And interesting shapes.

Almost Abstract

Lots of painting this weekend along with lots of  studio clean-up, edge finishing.
Here is a small painting I did, simplifying the scene below our home that I have painted so many times.
It was wonderful to lay down bright colors in this fashion.
I will do more.
What it comes down to is just how many strokes does it take to deliver your message?

trike with stones

Many of you have seen lots and lots of tricycle paintings from me. I have not done one for a couple of years, so it is time to revisit. This is the first of my new explorations.
I now will concentrate on more interesting compositions but the trike, it felt good.

Spring Hill Road

This landscape was painted on Wednesday at the old Burns Dairy which is now Open Field Farms.
It is a delightful place full of ranch buildings and acres of farmed flowers and veggies.
I worked on distance and capturing the light. The grass was so light, a beautiful contrast to the rows of flowers you see here.

Stormy weather

This week the  Daily Paintworks challenge has us painting an incoming storm.
This is not something we ever see in northern California but what fun to paint.
Just play with colors.
Lovely bright colors.

Autumn Mountains

Class last week was at a farm in the foothills east of Petaluma.
I selected a very small bit of landscape.
Love the movement.
Wish I had captured the dryness of the grasses.
There were so many colors.........

Blue Lemons

The Daily Paintworks Challenge this week is to paint using value, not color, as the defining element. So I was looking at value only and picking a color that was not  a "lemon" color. Just value. So difficult. I think I did not get my light light enough but shapes I saw.

Correction

I made just a few more strokes to this little painting.
Now the apple is not floating. Nice.
The dark pattern is a little stronger.
Happier.

Apples

Computer problems reign.
New computer, nothing connects.

Now that I have vented, here is my apple painting from last Friday.
I see I could have edited that branch as it is quite dominant.
I will live with it for a bit and see.
Love the red and green
