Going for Bright

Love this little guy. He is happy, happy.
Working with color and value and taking my time.
Trust the "corner of your eye" for a few days.

Washington St. Barn

This barn was near our outdoor setting yesterday at class. I had to look across a fence or two and a lane but the patchwork face of the barn got my attention. It was made up of old sheets of plywood which I exaggerated. The texture was so varied and the longer you looked, the more you saw.
And paint. I used more paint.

Another Barn

Surprise! I love painting barns.
This one was done in class today.
It is old, off kilter, full of odd angles.
That is what I love.
I remember from my childhood what happens to barns.
Horses eat wood.
Bulls go through walls.
High winds wreck havoc.
And on and on.

I really enjoyed painting this one.
Life is full of life right now so no painting for a few days.
It will settle down. And I will do more barns.

Class works

Wednesday class was held up in the hills to the east of Petaluma. I chose to paint a little old pump house. How difficult could that be?  Lots, let me tell you.
I was working on a 5 inch square which complicated matter immensely.
At any rate, I love the palette. You can tell I have not worked on canvas lately as I had a terrible time getting enough paint built up on the canvas. Sit back in your chair and enjoy the rich colors.

Here is my  30 minute painting. We do it at the end of each class with the thought being that our palette is set, we are tired and must paint quickly. That time limit allows the painting to be so fresh and without effort. Once again  I did not get to build up paint on the canvas. Next week I know exactly what to work on from the start. This canvas is 4" by 6".
Will I ever tire of barns and sheds?
Probably not.

Final Touches

I am posting these reworked or touched up paintings that you have seen before. This one at the top I really streamlined, gave it some gesture. It reads much better for me now.

This painting only had the sky warmed up to contrast with the cool roof top. Small changes can make a big difference!

Fall Challenge

This has been a slow week for me after the 30 day challenge. I never know how much energy it takes until it is all over. So today, Friday, I finally got to this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge.
The title of the challenge is Paint the Fall and the creator of the challenge chose a beautiful backlit photo of fall leaves.  It was very pretty and looked ok to paint.
Well, it was difficult. I just kept thinking, value-value-value.
So here is my version of the challenge.
Do visit the site and enjoy all the wonderful entries.

Little Hen House

It was a wonderful day of painting at class today out in the country.
Right in the center of the yard, there is this little hen house.
Two hens are presently sitting on eggs but they were shy.
The house was old and used and loved.
I hope that is what I conveyed!
