This is yesterday's companion piece. But oh, so much more difficult for me to do. This chicken was black and white, kind of striped. That was difficult for me to capture but her head was this bright and lively and her beak looked like it had some age. So, here she is!
Life has been very busy with little painting time. I miss it. I did over several days get this 11 x 14 study done of the scene you have seen a couple of times before. Now I need to let go and do one painting that will be the summation of the three studies. Here I finally nailed the values. It is just an amazing process, needing to learn but yet also needing to keep it fresh.
On Wednesday I went out to walk with my friend and then painted her home in Two Rock across the road from the ranch that I grew up on. The scene was mostly in shadow with the light just playing with the trees and the grass in front of the home. Fun to paint. Angles and curves.
This is my first up close look at the pansies in the garden. It is done over an old painting which I sanded and then let peek through here and there.

My entry for the gift challenge this week ( do a painting of a gift someone gave you) is this blue Fiesta Ware vase given to me by a dear friend. There was something so comforting about forming those arcs in the main shape. A stack of other 6 inch paintings to the side.
The is the same view as yesterday's painting, a different photo and a horizontal support. I like the way my eye travels through the painting. The horizontal support helps with that.I tried to warm up the grass and enjoyed the process once again. It works well to keep on one scene until you feel quite comfortable with it. Now there are 4 more tomatoes on the kitchen counter......maybe another revisit tomorrow.
Walking the walk really means painting the paintings. Honestly, I have been painting but I must also say that these Northern California allergies are slowing me down. It is the height of dry grass season and pollen is in the air.
I wanted a simple tomato painting and lo, I got myself into trouble midway through. Too much medium. I think I should have scraped and started over but today is a work day for me so I pushed on. It will be good to see how it dries and the total effect of too much medium. The background reminds me of old linoleum.....not intended, I can assure you.

This is my second polka dot painting. It is posted in the Challenge on Daily Paintworks but I did not blog with it. Such a fun challenge. How could a few little polka dots complicate matters so? My garden is going wild so more flower paintings are in the works.
