Serene...........at the beach

Dillon's Beach

At the beach several years ago. Serene and beautiful. So much fun to lay down these quiet colors, capturing the spirit of the day.

More of a Challenge

This is yesterday's companion piece. But oh, so much more difficult for me to do. This chicken was black and white, kind of striped.  That was difficult for me to capture but her head was this bright and lively and her beak looked like it had some age.  So, here she is!

Tash's Chicken

I had so much fun painting this morning. Just a backyard chicken well loved by a young lady named Natasha. So much fun to do.

Another study, time flies

Life has been very busy with little painting time. I miss it. I did over several days get this 11 x 14 study done of the scene you have seen a couple of times before. Now I need to let go and do one painting that will be the summation of the three studies. Here I finally nailed the values. It is just an amazing process, needing to learn but yet also needing to keep it fresh.

Roses

I first posted this work on May 18 but it needed another pass so I tried to simplify my strokes. Definitely an improvement.

Valley Ford Road

On Wednesday I went out to walk with my friend and then painted her home in Two Rock across the road from the ranch that I grew up on.  The scene was mostly in shadow with the light just playing with the trees and the grass in front of the home. Fun to paint. Angles and curves.

Happiness

This is the third painting done Tuesday. Can you see all I learned from the first two? I titled it Happiness as that is how it looks and how it makes me feel.  Warm. Great.

Pansies

This is my first up close look at the pansies in the garden. It is done over an old painting which I sanded and then let peek through here and there.

My entry for the gift challenge this week ( do a painting of a gift someone gave you) is this blue Fiesta Ware vase given to me by a dear friend. There was something so comforting about forming those arcs in the main shape. A stack of other 6 inch paintings to the side.

The Park Revisited

The is the same view as yesterday's painting, a different photo and a horizontal support. I like the way my eye travels through the painting. The horizontal support helps with that.I tried to warm up the grass and enjoyed the process once again. It works well to keep on one scene until you feel quite comfortable with it. Now there are 4 more tomatoes on the kitchen counter......maybe another revisit tomorrow.

Simple Landscape

This is a simple shape study of a scene at a regional park just down the road from our home. My favorite part............the sky!

Redone

I played with this work from yesterday again and like it much better. I gave more thought to the background color which in turn changed the vase color.

Stripe Challenge

This week the challenge is to use stripes in your work. From polka dots to stripes...........hmmmm.
My main emphasis was to find the shadows.  Now, did I forget those two or three little highlights I like to give a painting? Yes.

Then I moved in closer as I like to do. Love the flower in shadow on the left. Great fun with a new tool, creating texture. Dark pattern, where is the dark pattern?

June

This is how I played this weekend. I needed a change of subject so I selected from some bird photos that I had taken in the backyard.  Birds are new for me so it took me many, many strokes.

On Saturday we joined 18 other jeeps and did our annual ride which this year was through the hills of northern Marin County.  It was clear and windy which made for a beautiful day.

Walking the walk

Walking the walk really means painting the paintings. Honestly, I have been painting but I must also say that these Northern California allergies are slowing me down. It is the height of dry grass season and pollen is in the air.
I wanted a simple tomato painting and lo, I got myself into trouble midway through. Too much medium.  I think I should have scraped and started over but today is a work day for me so I pushed on. It will be good to see how it dries and the total effect of too much medium. The background reminds me of old linoleum.....not intended, I can assure you.

6 x 6

This is my second polka dot painting.  It is posted in the Challenge on Daily Paintworks but I did not blog with it. Such a fun challenge. How could a few little polka dots complicate matters so? My garden is going wild so more flower paintings are in the works.
