What silly weather we are having.  So warm a few days ago and now the air is crisp and just like February. Whatever.  But my daffodils are up and blooming.  I am still attempting to understand this flower. I know this work is not done but then, you do like process works, don't you? There will be more.

In my attempt to embrace ellipses, I reworked this painting. Now I have the ellipse a little too narrow on the bottom.   Oh well, a work in progress.  Aren't we all.
Have a great day!

The elusive ellipse

My last week has been spent working on the all started with the junk food painting I posted previously. So I drew and drew. Then I went to class and got wonderful instruction on what I was missing......and off I went. Now I understand so much more. The next challenge is to translate that into a painting without overdoing. And I love to overdo!
My favorite, if I indulge, is Ginger Ale. So clean and refreshing.
My version is done on canvas paper........just a study of the subject.

Here I challenged myself to create a work using only a palette knife, no brushes.
On canvas paper again............just a study.

Class was once again junk food so I expanded my view to include donuts. It was good to paint all the ellipses you see.........placed, set, name it!
Canvas paper again........which is great for the whole learning curve. When you know it is a study, doing something more temporary is a good thing. Boards stack up enough as it is in the studio........
And the daily paintworks challenge is meat this week. As in raw meat. I wonder if I will get to it. :) And what about the beautiful daffodils on the desk. They are also speaking to me!

Junk Food

We were to bring junk food to class today. What a set up to paint. My carmel corn was on the other end of the table so I chose a diet soda can, some m and m's and four little jelly fishes. It was great fun and resulted in some interesting paintings. I learned so what color was the can?

We talked about this painting and then I came home and made my light pattern more intense, dropped the trees in the background further back, added a twitch of red. Good day.

Music and Trees

Here you see the photo "homework".  Let's try a sitting figure, shall we?

Well, ok.  We will see in class tomorrow. Looks pretty primitive to me, but you are observing a process.  This is a beginning.

I did this tree several times during the summer. Now I approached it again, much fresher, cleaner. I have a few problems with it including the floating building, but I am sure they are resolvable. A fun week painting and hold on.......we are painting junk food tomorrow!

Another try

My assignment in life is to finally understand our camera better so I can present a more accurate image of my paintings.  The one above is much closer than yesterday but to get it I had to edit the color a bit in the Windows picture software. Mainly I lowered the brightness.  This is better but I have my camera manual here at work to "study".

Last night I did a fast white painting so I could resubmit to the white challenge on Daily Paintworks. Workinig rapidly and not fussing helped me have a much fresher painting. Interesting..........

February morning

This is the beautiful scene that greeted me this morning as I started my day. It is going to be almost 70, a day to be savored.

The first flowers of spring already nodding their hello. Great gestures.

The pictures of my paintings seem really washed out even though I was outside  so I will take them again but I did want to show you how I tried to define a center of interest in this barn from a couple of weeks ago.

The Daily Paintworks challenge this week is white.  Grrrrr.........Very difficult but learning so much. I will continue, trying this again.  Maybe add eggs and really challenge myself.

Homework from last week............looking for the gesture of the flowers, for the path through the painting to my ever present barns.  Fun, fun.
