The Balance Challenge

And that was the challenge!  Just stack something.  I had these very small bowls which happened to compliment each other perfectly! The painting was kept loose and free. Who could ever manage all those shadows, cast and reflective and more! You can see more on http://www.dailypaintworks.com/Challenge/28AF0AA5-636B-4840-9E08-F08BE8084FE5 and look under the balance challenge!
My stacked is 5 x 7 and done in oil.

Wednesday class

Wednesday class was held at the turning basin by Dempsey's outdoor seating area.  I was just at the foot of the pedestrian bridge on the left.  This large vessel was parked there at the dock and looked like a very nice subject.  So I started........and then the owners came aboard and set off down the river. Good thing we were working quickly as I got most of what I needed before they left. Very fun to work on reflections. This is a small 5 x 7 oil painting.

Boat gone, looking around.  Here is my version of the downtownscape at the Apple Box. Slightly abstracted. It could be a scene from so many cities and towns. Nice play of warm and cool, complimentary colors.  As this was our first plein air outling of the year......I learned lots and lots.
6 x 6 oil

My little quail lives!  This is their season. We hear them often calling to each other their springtime songs. This painting has been critiqued and updated, maily pushing the fence posts back, making them smaller and more irregular.  Hard to get the painting to be about the bird but really, it is.  Love the red barn.......in fact I love all the red barns that dot Sonoma County.

Wednesday class

Here is my entry into the Daily Paintworks weekly challenge which is Outside Your Window. The quail is also a part of the yearly challenge for my Wednesday class which is to limit myself to whatever I can find in my back yard. As you know, there are flowers, tricycles, and now quail.
This little quail was sitting both on a post and then right outside the window on the deck railing just singing his heart out.  That is a certain sign that it is spring.

8 x 8 oil, $75.00

Finito! Finished!
I only made one adjustment........can you tell? I am happy to have resolved lots of issues and feel that the special moment I wanted to capture was captured. What more could you want?
Glad to wrap this one up and yes, there will probably be another. The story really should continue.
